A
Call to Serve
Jim
Schulz
grew up in a minister's home and
knew from a very early age that he would one day be in the ministry
himself. In 1966, he met Linda Coovert at Glad Tidings Assembly of God
in
Muncie
,
Indiana
while visiting during the summer
before his senior year of
Bible
College. They were married the
following year; August, 1967 (a year filled with MANY letters and
phone calls). They pastored in
Punta Gorda
,
Florida
for two years following their
marriage, at which time the Lord led them into Alaskan missions. The
Schulzes have two daughters, Kimberly
& Stacia, who have grown up in
Alaska
. Kim has graduated from the
University
of
Alaska
with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Public
Relations and works and lives with her family, Aaron (husband) and Asa (son) in
Sterling, AK.
Stacia has graduated from Saint
Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
Technology and works and lives with her family, Kevin (husband) and Jaedon (son), in the
St. Louis, MO area.
Missions Appointment
Jim & Linda are Assemblies of
God U.S. Missionaries. They have
ministered in
Alaska
since 1969. During those
years they have ministered to the Athabascan Indians, the Yupik
Eskimo, and the Inupiat Eskimo.
After initially spending several
years with the Athabascan Indians of the interior village of Minto,
they moved to Alaska's western coast where they built a church in the
Yupik Eskimo village of Kotlik on the north mouth of the Yukon Delta.
Following seven years of ministry in Kotlik, they pioneered a new work
in Kotzebue, an Inupiat village located 30 miles above the Arctic
Circle. Here they built a parsonage in 1979 where church services
where held until the congregation was able to build a church in 1982.
During this time, Jim piloted his own plane to reach the 12 villages
and towns in the Western Section of Alaska where there were Assemblies
of God missions that he served as Presbyter. While ministering in
Alaska, Jim & Linda have lived and worked under many and varied
circumstances. Their years in Minto and Kotlik were spent without
village electricity or running water. Their Alaskan experience
includes a broad range of ministry to most of
Alaska
's Native people groups.
Alaska Missions
In 1985, Jim was asked
to serve as Alaska Field Coordinator basing his ministry in
Anchorage
, the transportation center for the State. During the years 1985 to
2001, Jim worked with the Alaska Superintendents developing missions
programs in
Alaska
. In 2001, Jim was asked to develop and direct
Alaska
’s Church Planting movement. Its
purpose was to help
Alaska
reach its unreached people.
Jim and Linda were also
used by the Holy Spirit to develop two additional
Alaska
ministries: Alaska Native
Evangelism—a literature program ministry using ICI (International
Correspondence Institute) evangelism lessons.
Through this gospel literature ministry, hundreds have found
Christ as their Savior. This
ministry has seen as many as 2,000 students at one time.
God also used the
Schulzes to begin and direct the evangelism ministry of Camp Agaiutim
Nune (
Camp AN
).
Camp AN
is a powerful evangelism tool reaching the children, teens, and
families of
Alaska
’s West Coast villages. Through
this ministry, hundreds have found Christ as their Savior, scores have
received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and many have been called into
the ministry.
Your Part in
Alaskan Missions
The
Schulzes are funded through missions contributions from churches and
friends like you. Alaska still has scores of villages without an
evangelical or Pentecostal work. These villages may be part of the
United States; a country which prides itself in the numbers of
churches; however, the Alaskan Native People of these villages do not
have the same religious opportunities that people in the Lower 48
enjoy. Through prayer and financial giving, you can be a part of every
missions endeavor included in their ministry. |
